The Closing Palki Utsav marks the official end of the Char Dham Yatra each year, usually in October or November, before heavy snowfall begins in the high Himalayas.
Goddess Yamuna’s idol is taken in a decorated Palki from Yamunotri Temple to Kharsali Village amidst devotional songs and rituals.
Goddess Ganga’s idol travels from Gangotri Temple to Mukhba Village.
Lord Kedarnath’s idol is carried from Kedarnath Temple to Omkareshwar Temple, Ukhimath.
Lord Badri Vishal’s idol is moved from Badrinath Temple to Narsingh Temple, Joshimath.
The deities’ palanquins are decorated with flowers and ornaments. Villagers and pilgrims join the procession with chants, conch shells, and dhol-damau beats. – A special farewell Aarti is performed before departure.
The Closing Palki Utsav is both an emotional farewell and a reminder of the divine connection between the mountains and the people.
